Counseling Department
Counseling is a process of learning, growing and expanding your awareness of yourself and others. It involves considering new perspectives and making better choices. This can happen at any stage of life. It is never too soon and never too late.
Tampa Jewish Family Services offers a dynamic Counseling Department to assist children, individuals, families; couples and senior adults function at their highest level possible. Our licensed professional staff is dedicated to bringing healing into the lives of hurting people.
Tampa Jewish Family Services provides counseling services across the life span; from children to senior adults. Counseling is provided in a confidential and supportive setting, matching the unique needs of each client.

Children and Adolescents
We live in a world that is increasingly complex, intense and stressful. TJFS offers individual, couple, marital, family and group counseling with expertise in the following areas:
- Adjustment Difficulties
- Anger Management
- Anxiety
- Communication Issues
- Depression
- Family Issues (divorce, intermarriage, remarriage, blending families, etc)
- Grief and Loss
- Parenting Education
- Pre-Marital Counseling
- Relationship Issues

- Transitions (divorce, remarriage, severe illness, unemployment, etc)
Senior Adults
Help for senior adults, single or married who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, life stress, or withdrawal because of losses, illness and financial issues. Senior adults are seen at the TJFS office or senior facility.
Staff
TJFS Counseling staff consist of licensed and master level therapists with post graduate training in many of life issues.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is TJFS’s first priority. The agency makes strict efforts to ensure confidentiality from the moment an individual makes contact. Names and information cannot be given to anyone without the permission of the person receiving services.
TJFS knows that reaching out for help is difficult. However, this is why the Agency exists.
Eligibility
The Counseling Program of Tampa Jewish Family Services, Inc. is available to residents of the Tampa area. The Counseling Program follows the lead of the National Association of Social Workers and does not discriminate based on race, religion, ethnic background, national origin, gender, sexual preference, special needs, ability to pay, or age.
The TJFS counseling program does not work with certain populations and refers these populations to more appropriate providers within the community.
- Clients who are currently abusing alcohol and other drugs
- Clients who initially present with suicidal, homicidal and/or assaultive ideation and are unable to state that they are certain that they will not act on this ideation
Appointments
The office is open Monday – Thursday 9:00 AM – 5:00 Pm and on Friday 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Early morning and evening appointments may be available by appointment.
Fees
TJFS provides counseling on a sliding scale according to income. TJFS also accepts Medicare and many third party insurance companies. No one is denied services due to an Inability to pay.
