Weight Watchers Donates 500 Pounds of Food

On Saturday, August 27, 2011, Weight Watchers South Tampa kicked off the annual Lose for Good campaign with a donation of 500 pounds of food to TJFS’ Community Food Bank. The kick off coincides with the national event, August 28 – Octobter 15, 2011, that challenges Weight Watchers’ members to lose weight and raise funds for the needy. Locally, during the next several weeks, Weight Watchers South Tampa will encourage members to donate one pound of food for every pound of weight lost through their program. Last year, members collected nearly 1,000 pounds of food during the Lose for Good promotion. If the goal is met again this year, the total donation would be 1,500 pounds of food to help feed the hungry through the efforts of Tampa Jewish Family Services.

TJFS would like to thank Weight Watchers South Tampa for their support of the agency and the community.

Couples Counseling: The Necessary Step to a Healthy Marriage

Vicki Robey, Counseling Director of TJFS

Now, more than ever, it’s crucial for couples to develop a solid foundation for a lasting relationship in today’s tough economic times.

Vicki Robey, Counseling Director for Tampa Jewish Family Services, explains, “more couples are seeking help because of the stressors (i.e., home foreclosures, job losses) brought on by today’s economy. These tough times have significantly increased marital strife, conflict and breakdown in communication and family disintegration. Therefore, it’s important for couples to focus on strengthening their marital and family relationships.”

The counseling services offered by Tampa Jewish Family Services help couples with issues including effective communication, conflict resolution, financial issues and parenting concerns. “Most couples go into marriage thinking they are prepared, but after the honeymoon they realize how unprepared they are” says Robey.
