Sponsoring the 2010 Community Service Scholarship

Tampa Jewish Family Services is proud to announce its second annual community excellence scholarship honoring high school students who excel in community service.  This is a merit based scholarship and the amount will be $1800.  The application were due February 16, 2010.

All semi-finalists and their families will be honored at the Tampa Trifecta of Chefs event to be held on May 2, 2010 when the winner will be announced. The semi-finalists will be honored in all press and printed materials.  Good luck and keep up the good work.


Sam Bobo

Sam is active in both United Synagogue Youth and the Tampa Youth Philanthropy Panel. He is also a member of his school’s National Honor Society, and serves as the Head Chemistry tutor for his school’s science tutoring program.

Clayton Faulk

Clayton has been volunteering in a variety of positions with an international youth soccer tournament in Minnesota for the last three years.  He has also been involved in making dreams come true for seriously ill children through the Children’s Dream Fund, as well as raising money and awareness of breast cancer with his involvement in the Susan G. Komen’s Breast Cancer 3Day walk. Clayton also volunteers for the Children’s Gasparilla Parade here in Tampa.

Michael Aaron Kanter

Michael has been involved with JCC Summer camp, providing food and shelter to underprivileged children through Metropolitan Ministries, and raising money for Cancer research through Relay for Life.

Mikaela Harris

Mikaela developed a program at Cypress Woods School to teach students the importance of appreciating the differences in others.

Mollie Schick

Mollie has been involved with many different volunteer opportunities including: Relay for Life, Metropolitan Ministries, a variety of Girl Scout projects, Toys for Tots, babysitting for Friday night temple services, pet therapy, Tampa Jewish Family Services High Holy Day food drive, road cleanups, Horses for the Handicapped, and a disabled swim league.

Victoria Tannenbaum

Last year, Victoria traveled to the Dominican Republic with her mother to participate in a ChiroMission community service project. Once there, she helped the local children by tutoring them in English while her mother and her chiropractic colleagues administered treatment in local schools.

Lindsey Weiss

For the past eight years, Lindsey served as a volunteer leader for the Florida Chapter’s Junior Board of the Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF), whose mission is to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of congenital heart disease. She has also served as a CHF junior representative to the National Congenital Heart Coalition where she lobbied for the creation and passage of national legislation, the Congenital Heart Futures Act (CHFA), in Washington, DC.

Jeremy Wernick

Jeremy has been involved with his synagogue’s youth group, New Ahavat Shalom Temple Youth (NASTY). He has been on its board holding the position of co-Programming Vice President, co-Religious and Cultural Vice President, and President for two terms.  Through NASTY, Jeremy volunteered for Watson House for the Blind and Camp Jenny, an overnight camp for underprivileged elementary school students from Atlanta.
